NARPM Day on the Hill
Report from the Front Line!
For the 5th consecutive year, NARPM members took to Capitol Hill to talk with their respective state representation about property management industry issues. Michael Hodges, RMP® MPM®, serving as the Day on the Hill Committee Chair and incoming Government Affairs Chair, traveled to Washington DC to participate. Here's a brief run-down of the 2 day event.
Monday morning the key national leaders of NARPM (including Michael) met at HUD with Director of Enforcement (Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity) Lyn Grosso and David Enzel, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Enforcement & Programs. The remaining attendees had the choice of enjoying either a Library of Congress or Capital tour during this time frame!
All attendees gathered for lunch and then received five great speakers who briefed the group in detail on HUD, ESA, etc. issues with plenty of Q&A, especially about the Section 8 voucher program.
Tuesday was spent entirely on the Hill, meeting with representatives and discussing the following issues:
- Section 8 Reform
- National Flood Insurance Program Reauthorization
- ADA Lawsuit Reform
- Assistance Animals
- Disparate Impact
Michael's group from Florida met with the following offices:
- Representative Murphy
- Representative Castor
- Senator Rubio
- Representative Demmings
- Representative Rutherford (from Jacksonville)
Additionally, the group stood in for a Missouri colleague who was indisposed and conducted the meeting with Senator Blount's office who graciously received the group.
This was, to date, the most compelling and well attended Day on the Hill NARPM has held.
If you have questions about any of this or what it all means and why Michael is involved, call or email him-he would welcome the inquiry and discussion!
